Fun fact–gratitude improves your sleep.

Do you have trouble falling asleep or do you find yourself lying awake at night? Well science shows that a great safe and free way to improve your sleep is to express gratitude.

Studies report that people with higher levels of gratitude have a higher quality of sleep–yep, those people do actually “sleep easier”, taking less time to fall asleep and having a better sleep overall.

Researchers put it down to increased levels of dopamine, which regulates sleep and wakefulness and the neurotransmitter serotonin, which in particular is activated by happy memories.

They also found that people who changed their behaviour by incorporating a gratitude diary, quickly came to benefit not only from a better night’s sleep, but also reduced physical problems and less worrying.

So the recipe for a good night’s kip might just be to write down something you are grateful for each night, ponder a happy memory and then snuggle down for some quality shut eye
