When running your own business it can be so difficult to juggle work and major life changes without dropping the ball.
Here a great example of how to handle a major event while maintaining a business.
My amazing virtual assistant (who has a dozen clients) recently relocated to another Australian State and still managed to keep her business running while coordinating and pulling off the big move.
Here are three strategies that she used to keep everything running smoothly:
- Being upfront: If you are going to be unavailable to your clients for a period of time, explain your circumstances to them upfront and give them plenty of notice to make alternate arrangements if necessary. The last thing you want is having clients trying to contact you, not being able to get hold of you and having no idea why.
- Being realistic: As much as you would like to think so, you are not superwoman/man. Be realistic about what you can achieve in a day and prioritise your tasks accordingly. Don’t be afraid to ask for help from friends and family if you need it. Outsource whenever you can – anything to help get you through this hectic period!
- Limiting distractions: Set yourself goals to achieve for the day and limit the number of distractions that could get in the way of you achieving what you need to. For example – turn off your phone for periods, set one or two brief timeframes during the day for checking and responding to emails – and keep away from Facebook and Twitter!
