In an awful turn of events, a sewerage pipe exploded at our premises. While we hoped we could salvage at least half of our contents, contamination issues meant that was not the case.
While at the end of the day, ‘stuff’ is not important, it was heartbreaking to throw food, clothing, treats and raw materials – destined to help people in need – in the bin.
I’ve spent more than seven years building up m.a.d.woman and the m.a.d.woman foundation and spent the past few days riding an emotional rollercoaster, wondering if I should throw in the towel.
However, knowing my work has helped more than 300,000 people in that time, I have decided I’m just not ready to let it all end now. We need a hand up, so we can rebuild. I’m hoping you can help with the recovery effort.
Due to some recent increases in our activity, insurance doesn’t come even close to covering the loss (please ensure you check any of your own personal/business policies asap to ensure you have adequate coverage!).
If you are able to help the m.a.d.woman foundation (and we hope you can), here are some ways:
Trivia Night Fundraiser
We are holding at Trivia Night fundraiser in Melbourne on Thursday 23 October at the Collingwood Town Hall. Individual tickets are $65 (book here) and tables of 10 are $600 (book here). The night includes drinks/finger food along with prizes and auction/raffle.
We would sincerely welcome donations (you can Donate here) – all amounts over $2 will be receipted and can be claimed as a tax deduction.
We are working on a wish list for replacement items, but as we currently have nowhere to store anything, we are not able to start that part of our appeal yet.
Donations of prizes for our fundraiser would also be appreciated – please contact us.
Thank you so much to the amazing people already working to help get m.a.d.woman back in the business of making a difference. It means more than you will know.
